A First Taste of Generative AI Performance Search Data in Google Search Console

July 2, 2026 by Kailyn |

We’ve been able to see AI Overviews and AI Mode changing Google Search. What we haven’t had is a great way to see how often our own websites are showing up there. That’s starting to change.

On June 3, 2026, Google announced the new Google Search Console Generative AI performance report, giving website owners a dedicated look at their visibility within generative AI features across Search and Discover.

It’s an early look, and the reporting is pretty bare bones for now. But for anyone tracking AI Search visibility, it’s a delicious start.

What Can You See?

Google states that the new reporting introduces dedicated views for generative AI visibility across Search and Discover, although availability may vary during the rollout. At this time, we can only view it under “Search Results”.

In Search, the Generative AI report covers appearances within experiences such as AI Overviews and AI Mode. The data currently includes:

  • Impressions: How often a URL from your website appeared.
  • Pages: Which URLs are showing up.
  • Countries: Where your AI visibility is coming from.
  • Devices: Which devices people were using when your website appeared. (only Search)
  • Dates: How visibility changes over time.
Google Search Console AI Generative Report

This isn’t an entirely new set of Search Console data. Generative AI visibility is still included within Google’s overall performance reporting. The new reports simply give us a dedicated view, making it easier to separate that activity and see how AI visibility is developing on its own.

Pages May Be the Sweet Spot

Of everything currently available, the Pages report may give businesses and marketers the most to work with.

Knowing your total AI impressions is interesting. But knowing which pages are earning those impressions starts giving you something to investigate.

Google Search Console AI Generative Report: Pages

Are certain topics showing up more frequently? Are informational pages getting picked up while service pages aren’t? Did a recently updated page start earning more AI visibility?

We still won’t know exactly why Google chose a particular page, but being able to identify the URLs appearing in these experiences gives us a better starting point for understanding what is working.

We’re Still Missing a Few Pieces

The biggest one? Clicks. Right now, the dedicated reports show visibility, but they don’t tell us how much traffic those AI appearances are generating.

That makes impressions useful for spotting trends but limited when it comes to understanding what happened after someone saw your website within an AI experience.

There are still a few pieces we’d love Google to add to the mix. For now, think of this as version one. Google has already said it is gathering feedback and considering additional metrics over time, so the reporting we see today will likely become more useful as the feature develops.

More Control Over AI Visibility

Google is also testing new controls that allow website owners to prevent their content from appearing in generative AI features such as AI Overviews and AI Mode. Opting out won’t affect eligibility for traditional Google Search results, but it does mean giving up the impressions and potential traffic those AI experiences could provide.

For businesses focused on growing organic visibility, that’s a tradeoff worth considering carefully.

The controls are also being introduced gradually, so availability may vary as Google continues testing and expanding the feature.

You May Not See Everything Yet

Before you go hunting through Search Console, there’s one catch. Google is initially rolling out the new AI performance reports to a subset of websites so it can test the feature and gather feedback before making it more widely available.

That means you may not see the reports at all yet, or you may only see some of the reporting Google has announced. Google hasn’t provided a timeline for when every website will have access to all of the new views.

What Does This Mean for Businesses?

For now, the biggest opportunity is simply having a better way to watch AI visibility develop.

If you have access, start with Pages. See which parts of your website are appearing within Google’s AI experiences and watch how those impressions change over time.

Consider these new reports as a first taste of Google’s AI Search data. Pages may give us the most useful information right now, but this is still an early version of the reporting. As Google adds more data, we’ll be able to connect more of the dots between traditional organic visibility and AI Search.

Right now, Google has given us a few of those dots. We’ll happily take them.
