The 2016 Google Partners Specialist Challenge was held in August and September 2016. This contest is held each year as a way for agencies to sharpen their skills and demonstrate their abilities to succeed at AdWords, the ecosystem through which marketers help businesses promote themselves on Google Search, Display, Mobile, Video, and Shopping Networks. On Oct 1, 2016, Ben Guest, received notification from Google that he had succeeded in the 2016 Specialist Challenge and would be sent a framed certificate for display.

Google AdWords Specialist Challenge

The Specialist Challenge presented by Google Partners, is a program of tests and certifications for digital marketing companies. The Challenge was established by Google so clients looking for companies can more easily identify outfits that know how to use Google’s marketing tools.

This annual event is rigorous because it is all-encompassing, including a general exam and one for each category of AdWords, as follows:

  1. AdWords Fundamentals
  2. Search Ads
  3. Display Ads
  4. Video Ads
  5. Shopping Ads
  6. Mobile Ads

The competition, which was exclusively for US and Canadian marketers, required agencies to pass exams on all of the above topics by September 23, 2016. Once companies were verified to have completed all of them, they were mailed framed Specialist certificates by Google that they could hang in their offices to establish their credibility and marketing knowledge.

The search engine company even holds trainings to help people prepare for the exams via Google Plus’s Hangout-on-Air (HOA) streaming video feature. These HOAs included presentations by Google, followed by Q&A periods.

The six classes and exams Ben passed to earn this distinction were held and completed as follows:

  1. AdWords Fundamentals – Tuesday, August 16
  2. Search Advertising – Tuesday, August 23
  3. Mobile Advertising – Tuesday, August 30
  4. Video Advertising – Tuesday, September 6
  5. Display Advertising – Tuesday, September 13
  6. Shopping Advertising – Tuesday, September 20
